Apetit, the leading producer of frozen vegetables and ready meals in Finland, recently launched a new nutritious food product – Mini-Veggieballs, the world’s first product containing BlackGrain from Yellow Fields.

Apetit launched their new Mini-Veggieballs in the hotel, restaurant, and catering sector (HoReCa) of the food industry in early 2022. The vegan, fibre-rich, gluten-free, and soy-free product serves as a healthy protein source and an environmentally friendly alternative to meat.

“Mini-Veggieballs are a versatile vegan product, made from pea protein and the new rapeseed powder ingredient BlackGrain from Yellow Fields. They offer a great source of protein in salad buffets or as a meatball-substitute in pasta sauce, for example”, says Apetit’s Product Development and Portfolio Manager Hanna Pere.

Increasing nutritional value and matching a wide range of dietary requirements

According to Pere, BlackGrain was a perfect addition to the product because it fits a long list of dietary requirements and helps to minimise allergens in the final product. BlackGrain is vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, legume-free, and low in FODMAPs.

Including BlackGrain in the recipe also enhances the nutritional value of Apetit’s Mini-Veggieballs, as the rapeseed powder ingredient is naturally high in fibre, protein, and essential amino acids.
